Happy Birthday Syd!

Today, the youngest of my older daughters had her 16th birthday. It amazes me that (a) I am that old, and (b) how much she has grown. She has become quite the young lady and continues to astonish me.

Cheerleading. For the longest time I have looked at cheerleading as a "sport" that required air headed blonde that really have nothing to do but stand there, smile and jump around saying the same thing over and over. Not really a challenge to the brain.

Wow, was I wrong. Syd for the past two years has been working her butt off doing splits, jumps, stretching into positions that challenge Cirque de Soleil performers. She took gymnastics with a bunch of young kids. She practiced in the back yard. She tried out for the cheer squad and failed...twice.

This year, she made it. She shows me regularly that with hard work and perserverance, she can do anything she desires. Honestly, I can't say I would be able to acheive what she has with all of the obstacles she has faced. I am so proud of her.

This brings me to my point (as I almost always have one). Happy Birthday Sydni! You should be so proud. I love you very much.

Did you know...

Originally cheerleaders were all men. It was not until the 1920's that women became involved.
