Chevy Chase Bank to Capital One Transition Nightmare

It is amazing to me how badly Capital One planned and delivered this transition from Chevy Chase Bank to Capital One.Our issues started day 1 when they (A) moved the website, and (B) managed to have my wife's debit card number charging all over the country.

The website moved so ALL of our software that helps us manage our money no longer worked...and continue to fail to work. Why? Because they moved the site URL AND they required a password change AND required me to answer those stupid questions about my mother's best friend's pet collar color in 1968. I really like the fact that it performed two factor authentication off of my debit PIN number. Up until this transition, I always knew my PIN number. So, I also use Mint to track finances and spending...but that doesn't work with Capital One. On top of this, the website does NOT show us what has been charged until the following day...This was not the case at Chevy Chase Bank. I was able to see all charges as they were placed against the account...which was another way for ME to monitor as my own fraud detection.

My wife's debit card just happened to have a bunch of fraud charges the smae day everything switched over. We of course were called by Fifth Third Bank (caller ID) but the problem is...THAT IS NOT CHEVY CHASE BANK NOR CAPITAL ONE. Idiots. Come to find out Capital One owns Fifth Third Bank as well and is using them as the fraud detection group. Then, in 3 separate visits to the bank branch and 4 calls to the fraud detection unit to actually get the fraud charges revoked. They issued my wife a new Debit Card which did come soon after the temp debit card was given (We will come back to this).

So...we went on vacation to my home town of Clinton, IL and stayed at the Kalahari in Sandusky, OH on the way back. Want to guess what happened to MY debit card? Right...flagged for fraud. So, without calling my home phone, they shut off my card. Thankfully it was after I was back in town. So, while standing in checkout at the grocery, I was declined. I had to think about this as I was certain we had the money. No matter, I pulled out another card and charged it. I checked the account after returning and we had the money. I looked at the charges and they were all our charges...nothing out of the ordinary.

4 days later, I received a letter in the mail stating my card has been shut down by fraud detection. In the same day, I received my new debit card...my Mastercard debit card. I failed to mention my Chevy Chase Bank debit card was a Visa debit card (which I liked). So, good by Visa points, and hello Mastercard...what? So, I tried to login to my old Visa points account and of course...I forgot my password, so I have to login with my Visa card number...that I no longer have.

So here I sit thinking about whether to make the big change since all of my online autopay bills have to have my new card added...or if I stick it out and wait to see if Capital One can sort their stupidity out. So far, I am looking at BB&T, PNC, or Wachovia (which is now owned by Wells Fargo but seems to have a MUCH smoother transition).
